I am a 33-year old first time mother of a beautiful baby girl. My husband, of three years, and I found my pregnancy to be a beautiful accident! We weren’t quite ready for a child yet but she was obviously ready for us!
I have always been career-focused so when I was pregnant I thought I would absolutely go back to my (high-stress, 60+hour-per-week) career. My mom would watch the baby and it seemed to make perfect sense. However, after my daughter was born I slowly changed my mind. When she was five months old I decided to stay home and raise my daughter full-time!
Because of my type-A personality I soon realized that I couldn’t sit at home with the baby all day. I joined a couple of local moms groups, but once I attended a few events I realized that, while the moms were all very nice and welcoming, I didn’t quite fit into the groups. My daughter was in a stroller, being protected from the sun- their children were running around playing on the playground. I went home and decided to start a group for new moms.
I started the group when my daughter was three and half months old and, to my surprise, became very successful. It turns out that there were many moms out there, just like me that wanted to connect with other NEW moms and share their experiences.
After a few months I realized that, while the local group was awesome, I wanted to spread the love to all new moms out there. I did this by starting a blog, newmomsofoc.blogspot.com and the New Mommy Oasis. It has been such a relief to share stories with other moms and realize that I wasn’t the only one going through what I was going through or feeling what I am feeling.
I hope that this site is helpful to you as well and gives you comfort in knowing that you aren’t the only one that has ever felt a certain way or made a certain mistake.
Welcome to the wonderful world of mommyhood and to your new mommy oasis!
