Baby Shower for Baby #2?
Do you have a baby shower for baby #2 (or 3 or 4)? This was the question that I kept asking myself as I approached the time that I should be having a shower (if I chose to have one). I had people tell me that you don’t have a baby shower for any other than your first baby. One friend told me to have a ’sprinkle’ since there wasn’t much that I would need. And, yet another friend, suggested that since I didn’t know the sex of the baby that I should wait until after the baby was born so that I could decide if a shower was needed. If the baby is a girl then there wouldn’t be a shower and if the baby is a boy then we would have a shower. I liked that idea but didn’t want to expose a new baby to so many people in the first month of his/her life.
We decided to have a shower but make it less about the gifts and more about celebrating the new life that was about to come into the world. My mom offered to throw the shower and some of my friends volunteered to help with it.
I was still concerned with the perception surrounding have a baby shower for your second baby, but my other girlfriends were doing it so I figured it couldn’t be too out of the ordinary (no, I wouldn’t jump off of a bridge if my friends did…).
It turned out to be a very special day and I was blessed to have so many people that I know and love there to celebrate with me. I don’t think I will have a shower if I have a third child, but we’ll see.
