Boy, are things different with my second pregnancy than they were with my first. To start with, the doctor appointments for my second baby are much different!
As with the first pregnancy my husband has made it to all of my appointments. I feel very lucky about this. We would hang out in the waiting room then go into the room together. The doctor would pick up the heart beat and we would look at each other with huge smiles on our faces. This has not changed. Hearing the babies heartbeat is amazing. I cried hearing it for the first time with the second baby just as I did with the first baby.
However, during my first pregnancy I would come to each doctors appointment with a list of questions to ask the doctor and I would ask every one and write the answers down. Each appointment would last around 30-45 minutes. However, at my last doctor appointment I was in the door, left my urine sample, into the room, heard the heartbeat, had no questions and was out the door in under 20 minutes!
I’ve even realized that I don’t read up on the pregnancy like I did the first time. When I was pregnant with Brett I used to read The Pregnancy Journal: A Day-to-Day Guide to a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy every night with my husband. When I got pregnant the second time I pulled the book out but I haven’t read it more than a dozen times. I try to but I am so busy with Brett all day and then am exhausted at night.
I will say though that I am still careful about the same things that I was careful with when pregnant with Brett. I still don’t eat any deli meats. I don’t eat sushi (sad). I limit my caffeine (though ice tea is my downfall). Of course I don’t drink alcohol. And, I don’t drink any diet drinks.
I’m only 16 weeks in but those are the differences in how I am treating my second pregnancy so far.
