Holly: My Mothers Day
I watched people make their Facebook posts about what their Mother’s Day was like. Massages, breakfast in bed, laundry being done, etc. My Mother’s Day wasn’t anything like that, and I have absolutely no complaints about it.
We live near my mother and both of my grandmothers. As my dad says, the oldest get to choose what the day is going to be like and we have always done that on all Mothers and Fathers Days. This one was no different. We had a wonderful brunch at my Uncle and Aunt’s home. My grandma opened gifts, we hung out outside, we visited. It was perfect. After that, we went home and I took a nap. Then we went to my parents’ house for dinner. My mom and dad made steak and lobster and delicious cheesy potatoes. Again, we hung around and visited.
There was no crazy pampering, but my husband got me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and nice cards from him and Brett. I got an early gift of a beautiful necklace with Brett’s name on it and her birthstone (which I will review later).
For some reason I don’t feel any claim on Mothers Day yet. I’m not really sure why. I think my mom and my grandma deserve the day much more then I do- they have all really earned it! Plus, my husband does such a great job of participating and helping with Brett all year round that I don’t necessarily feel like I need that particular day to ‘rest.’
Maybe I’ll feel different next year or after I’ve had another child, but for now I’m leaving Mothers Day to salute my own mother and grandmothers.
