Lisa: I DID IT!
As I had described in my previous blog posts, I have been training for a 5k for the past 2 months. The training was an amazing experience in being able to prove to myself that I could do something that I’ve NEVER been able to do, even when I was in tip-top shape.
I am proud to say that I DID IT! I ran my first 5k!!!
My ultimate goal was to run the entire thing without stopping. Like I’ve said before, I have NEVER been a runner. I played soccer for many years, but the distance running had never been a strength, so I didn’t want to pin myself down with a time goal, but really just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it!
I completed the Surf City Run in Huntington Beach, CA on the 4th of July. The crowd was so supportive & cheered us on the entire 3.2 miles. One thing I didn’t anticipate was the entire last mile was UP-HILL! I was running with a good friend & her boyfriend (who are avid runners & ran a 5k that same morning prior to running with me- lol ) & they kept me going when I just wanted to give up during that last 1/2 mile. I truly appreciated their encouragement & support!

I REACHED MY GOAL! I ran the entire 5k without stopping & I actually finished in a pretty decent time for my first competition~ just over 34 minutes. The first mile of the run was faster then any of my training runs at 9.5 minutes!
Overall I feel like I exceeded my goals & truly enjoyed the experience! As a mom, I feel like it’s important to show my daughter a healthy & active lifestyle by modeling it myself. I hope this is a step in the right direction!
