Swaddling was one thing that my husband & I just didn’t seem to understand how to do. In addition to learning it during our prenatal classes, we also had the hospital nurses walk us through it again the day Molly was born. Even after having hands on help on the swaddling process, my husband & I would just look at each other & laugh because we still just didn’t get it. Poor Molly would end up in a half-hazard wrap that probably provided no warmth or comfort because it was so baggy!
Eventually we each figured out our own ways of swaddling that didn’t frustrate us when we were up in the middle of the night for what seemed like the millionth time…you may laugh now, but every little thing makes a difference when you’re sleep deprived!
I’d like to share my husband’s method of swaddling because it still makes me giggle almost a year & a half later. Please keep in mind that we were already sleep deprived & I made him do it again & again so I could capture it on camera (I couldn’t miss out on documenting his “slick” swaddling techniques!). And for the record, there were no babies harmed in the process of filming this clip !
I love sharing my must-have baby items with our NMO members, so here’s another one to add to your list…
These muslin blankets are breathable so you don’t unwrap a sweaty baby AND they are oversized so you can continue to use them as your child gets older! We LOVE our aden + anais Muslin Wraps 4-Pack – Mod blankets!
Remember, the ultimate goal of swaddling is wrapping your baby so they feel safe & simulate the warm, calm feeling of the womb…SO the main takeaway is that you don’t have to master the “right” way to swaddle your baby, just find a way that works for you & your baby! Happy Swaddling!
