Pros: The cover is SO easy to remove and, therefore, easy to clean; Recently awarded a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 5-Star Ease of Use rating
Cons: None that have stood out during the review
Installation: It took my husband and Dad about 45 minutes to get the car seat installed. The instructions were very clear and easy to understand. My dad and husband agreed that the seat was easy to install even though the illustrations to help installation were unclear. It wasn’t so much the fault of the car seat but of the car we were trying to install it into.
Material: The material is super soft and I especially love the pads that rest along the neck. They are so soft and not too thick. The car seat has an easy to remove snap on cover that is awesome! My current car seat is milk-stained and dirty but I haven’t washed it because I don’t want to disassemble the entire car seat. So, for me, this is a HUGE advantage to The First Years car seat.
Safety : Obviously I cannot personally test the safety of the car seat (nor would I want to). In these cases you have to rely on the experts. Consumer Reports rated this car seat Very Good for Crash Protection and it was recently awarded a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 5-Star Ease of Use rating. The First Years True Fit Rebound is the ONLY convertible car seat that offers the Rebound Energy Management System. Managing Rebound Energy helps reduce the chance for broken bones in the legs, hips and waist that can be significant in a violent crash. The True Fit Rebound also features a multi-position recline in BOTH the Forward and Rear Facing positions; which makes The True Fit Rebound the only convertible car seat that offers multiple recline positions in a rear facing installation. Ages: 5-65 lbs. and up to 50 inches
Other: The strap adjustments on this car seat couldn’t be easier. You don’t realize that a big deal this is until you see how quickly your baby grows! You’re adjusting it more than you think you will be! Anything that makes my life easier as a mom is appreciated! Also, love the cup holder. Brett can’t reach it yet but I was able to put her drink there so it didn’t spill in transit.
We took Brett for her first ride in the car seat and she loved the experience of sitting facing forward. I could also tell she wasn’t too squished (a technical term) into the seat. The buckle that goes in-between her legs gave her plenty and room and didn’t cause any pinching. So you can understand her size she is 17-months old, about 32” tall and 24 pounds.
Additional Information from The First Years:
The True Fit Premier Rebound (model C670) is the newest addition First Years’ addition to the True Fit Convertible Car Seat family from First Years. This seat delivers all of the standard features from the original True Fit with several new features.
Why buy the True Fit convertible seat? Did you know that you can use this car seat from 5 to 65 lbs, and during the entire time of use your child will be secured in a 5-point harness. And most Safety Advocates recommend keeping your child in a harness as long as possible! Advocates also recommend keeping your little one rear-facing for as long as possible. First Years have a removable headrest that really is easy to remove. One finger lifts the release and you are able to pull the headrest off until you need it, usually up to 22lbs.
As your infant starts to grow, simply add the headrest back on and you are good to go in the rear-facing position up to 35lbs. And when your infant is ready to watch you drive (at 35 lbs or so) simply make sure that headrest is in place and turn your seat around. And remember, even in the forward-facing position, your child will still be using the 5-point harness.
And let’s not forget about installation: all of the True Fit car seats from First Years feature built-in lock-offs and a LATCH system for both the rear- and forward-facing positions. First Years also color-codes all of their belt paths, making it easier for you to locate just where you should be putting your car seat belts when you install your seat. Wondering about side-impact testing? The True Fit seats all have deep side wings and they are all side-impact tested to International Standards!
Ever try to adjust or rethread the harness straps on a car seat? Unless you have a few hours to spare, you will really appreciate the no-rethread, easy-to-adjust harness system. They have easy-to-access shoulder belt height adjusters on each side of the seat, and they are clearly marked with recommended positions (four) based on whether you are installing in a rear- or forward-facing position. All of this means you never have to spend time trying to figure out how to correctly rethread or adjust the harness.
The combination of their no-rethread harness and the easy-off pad makes clean-up a snap–literally, our pad snaps right off! Simply lift the center flap on the pad, unsnap the sides and clean up is as simple as can be. And once your pad is clean, it snaps back on in seconds hassle-free! The interior dimensions of the seat are large and comfortable. In fact, with the extra cushy seat pads and roomier seat, it may be hard to convince your child to leave their seat!
