Things I’ll Do Differently- Follow Up

Here I am – almost 6 weeks in- and things are awfully busy around my house. This may be clear to you since I haven’t been posting much content on the site. These little buggers keep me busy and when I’m not caring for them, doing laundry, doing dishes or cleaning up toys I am SLEEPING. Yes, I nap whenever possible because I am exhausted.

A few weeks before I had Patrick I wrote a blog about what I will do differently. I wanted to follow up on that because I am actually doing those things!  Here is a link to the original blog post Things I’ll Do Differently With Baby #2.

First, I said I would ‘wear’ this baby. Currently I am using the Moby wrap on nearly a daily basis. This is the only way I can get through doing all of the things I listed above. My baby likes to be held and will cry and flip a lid if he is put down for too long.  Now, the Moby can be a bit intimidating, but I found a great site that has instructions on how to use it. The site is called and the instructions and pictures are very easy to understand. In fact, I found them easier than the Moby site itself. Check it out if you need help with yours.  I’m not sure how much longer I will use the Moby but will then transition to the BabyBjorn and then probably the Ergo.  There are so many great baby wearing options!

Second, I said that this baby would take a pacifier.  I started giving Patrick a pacifier within a week of being home. I’m using the infant pacifiers called Soothies that are now sold by The First Years (one of my favorite brands). My son takes this pacifier and it makes my life a lot easier! I don’t give him a pacifier to keep him on a schedule- I just give it to him when he has the urge to suck but is definitely full.

I haven’t worked on the hat thing yet. Patrick wears a little cap when it’s cold out but he is too young to know any different so I’ll have to keep this update for later.

It’s so nice to have learned things from the first baby. I don’t think that it necessarily is making me a better mother but it has made me a slightly less neurotic one…

This picture if obviously of my daughter with the pacifier in her mouth. I put this on here because it’s ironic since she wouldn’t take one as a baby. Now she loves to put Patrick’s paci in her mouth!

  1. I wear my baby too. She has super fussy times where I will feed her, then she will choke on the milk cause she is definitely full but just won’t sleep. I hold her and she still cries. As soon as she is snuggled in the sling, she falls asleep. It is nuts! So during those times I get stuff done like hanging up clothes, that I don’t have to bend over to do. I have a Moby and a Sleepy Wrap. The Sleepy Wrap is a lot thicker and just more comfy for me, but I do love my Moby. I think the Sleepy Wrap, since it is thicker, is better for taking her from the car to the store. But in the spring I’ll opt for the lighter weight moby.

Paci? Oh I wanted little girl to take one!! But just last week (4 weeks old) she started gagging on it and spitting it out. This is the same thing my other 2 did :( Neither would take anything but mommy, no matter how long I left them with someone or what nipples I tried.

Good luck! I look forward to reading more!

  2. Thank-you, I am waiting to have a Prolapse Operation and have heard some horrendous stories about results so I am so grateful to read of your successful operation. and I feel much more confident about it now. Pollydoddle
