Top 10 Diaper Bag Items
I often find myself carrying everything but the kitchen sink in my diaper bag! I started with a beautiful, silky, Petunia Picklebottom bag. It kept falling over so then I switched to a large Baby Kaed bag. I should’ve started out with something like that but, as a new mom, you just figure things out as you go! It looks more like a giant purse and suits my style a bit more. However, I was breaking my back lugging around a 10-month old and that large bag. At the suggestion of another mom, I recently switched to carrying two diaper bags. I keep a large bag with almost anything you can think of in the car. Then, I carry a small diaper bag with only a few essentials with me in to the store, mall, park, etc. This is much less backbreaking for me and allows me to carry my normal purse as well.
When I asked a few moms from my moms group what they carried in their diaper bags, I got a varying response. I have left out the two obvious items- diapers and wipes, and here are the top 10 items that were mentioned:
-
An extra outfit for baby (and one for mommy!)
-
Toys (small, interesting, teething, easy to clean)
-
Snacks (for the older babies)
-
Hand Sanitizer
-
Bottle and pre-measured formula
-
Diaper Pads/Disposable Changing Pads
-
Nursing Cover
-
Wallet (since most moms no longer carry a purse)
-
Diaper sacks to dispose of diapers on the go
-
Blanket
Other things mentioned, but didn’t make the top 10 were a camera, breast pads, extra socks, books, burp cloth, and a hat. Since the diaper bag now doubles as a purse there was also the mention of lipgloss, keys, cell phone, water bottle and a magazine (for all of the times you sit in the car in a parking lot while baby naps).
You can never carry too much, in my opinion! So, carry it all- better safe then sorry!
Is it me, or is it ironic that diapers didnt make the list?
